The Piazza del Duomo in Bergamo, preserves the oldest history of the Orobic city in a hidden space, enclosed by religious and civil buildings . For centuries it was a place of contracts, exchanges and tenders, an active part in the public life of the city, undergoing many changes over time until it was rebuilt.
The square was part of the city’s Roman forum which was located thanks to the excavations and studies carried out under the cathedral in the early twentieth century . Research has revealed the presence of Roman roads and domus in this area. The forum included the space between piazza Vecchia , piazza del Duomo, up to the fish market.
